The Kent Association of Local Councils

The Kent Association is governed by its membership. Each member Council elects two representatives to its Area Committee. Each Area Committee elects two Area representatives to the County Executive. There is an Annual Meeting of all member Councils.

With additional powers and responsibilities being given to Parish and Town Councils, better informed Councillors and Clerks are increasingly important.

Specialist Services

The National Association provides SPECIALIST SERVICES including an Arbitration Service; an Investment Scheme; a Free Banking Scheme; Insurance Packages; Publications; and specialist Computer Software.

Current Awareness

CURRENT AWARENESS through publications such as:-

  • Local Council Review (magazine devoted to Parish and Town Council issues on a national basis)
  • Parish News (information on general Parish Council issues plus advice on specific legal issues - free)
  • Direct Information Service (bi-weekly national publication keeping member Councils abreast of legislative developments).

Advice to member councils

The Kent and National Associations exist to provide the advice, information and services requested by members.

ADVICE to all member Councils is available on a wide range of matters including

  • Legal (including Employment)
  • Procedural
  • Financial
  • Capital Project
  • Technical

Representation and Influence

Membership is open to all Parish Councils, Town Councils and Parish Meetings in Kent for a subscription agreed at the Annual Meeting. The Kent Association of Parish Councils is an integral part of the National Association of Local Councils.
